Tear Inducing School Art

(Originally posted here)

The kids made me the cutest thing in school, and brought them home today.  (Thursday is Ascension, so it's a Holy Day and no school, so this is the last class for them before Mother's Day.)  On one side is a "flower" that they made with their hand print (and a heart in the middle).  The poem says

"A piece of me I give to you
I made this flower because I love you
The heart is for you, the hand is for me
To show we are friends- the best there can be
I hope you will save it and look back someday
At the flower we shared on your Special Day."

On the back, the teacher wrote out the answers to some questions.  Since Bobby had a hard time doing that part of the project verbally, she actually wrote out the questions and he would read them and write or say his answer.  If she couldn't get an answer, she'd write out different choices for him and he picked (which is how I think he chose my not so favorite color!) But talk about something that had me holding back tears when I saw them today.

All About My Mom
by Maya
My mom's name is Mommy.
My mom is 33 years old in June.
My mom's job is to stand and bend.  (I think she was thinking of when we do yoga, LOL)
My mom's favorite food is pineapple.  (Only when I'm trying to get you to eat it!!!)
My mom's favorite color is pink.  (She asked me my favorite color in the car and I said "brown" and she says "Mmmm... I think it's pink actually."  Oh do you, princess!)
My favorite thing to do with my mom is to go to Starbucks.  (no shock there!)
The best thing about my mom is she watches Madagascar 2 and 3 and 1! (notice she didn't say "enjoys" or "likes" watching...  Girl knows her stuff! :) )

My mom's name is Mommy.
My mom is 10 years old.  (SWEET!!! That explains the not drinking...)
My mom's job is to cook. (Especially when the kids choose to boycott what I make!)
My mom's favorite food is chicken.  (What??? Clearly, I've made chicken way to much recently and tried to get the poor kid to eat it...)
My mom's favorite color is pink.  (Yeah... no...)
My favorite thing to do with my mom is golf.  (At this point, I was misty eyed, remembering taking him to play minigolf recently, and how much fun he had.)
The best thing about my mom is she loves me.

Miss M totally hit the nail on the head with a project that would make the preschool moms get a little misty eyed for Mother's Day.  (Even though Maya tells me I have to hide these and put them away until Mother's Day, I think I may just have to coerce her with some more strawberries to let me keep them out and by my desk because I can't bear to part with them!)
