NICU Day 47 (TCN 14)

Two weeks in the Transitional Care Nursery! Woo Hoo!

The babies are doing much better today than yesterday. Bobby has nippled almost 60% of his feed and Maya has done 40%. One of the nurses showed us a new way to bottle feed that has helped. Using a pillow under my arm, I lay them at about 40 degrees on their side with their back against my body and feed them. They can still see my face by apparently this position helps babies learn to suckle more effectively. It's working. We are seeing a huge improvement. Bobby took 2 full bottles today and Maya took one full bottle! This is great news!

Day three of my breast milk mega journey and today is the first day that I didnt make enough milk to feed them for the day. :( I was only down a few mils (and thankfully they have enough from previous to make up for that). I am hoping tomorrow will be a better day.

So glad things are going so well today!

Just look at it from it is what it is perspective. They are still getting some if not all of their feedings from you. Even if you have to supplement them with formula, they are still getting some milk (and that protection) from you. :)

Glad to hear they are doing better today! So, that is great news that they are eating SO much that they ran out of your milk for them! That just means that they are getting chubbier! As they progresively eat more, you will progresively make more milk. It will just take time. You're doing awesome momma ~ keep up the good work.

Your babies are so beautiful and I am so happy that everyone is doing so well. I also have PCOS and Hoshymotos Thyroiditis and I had the same problem with my breast milk. My son was 9lbs 9oz when he was born and liked to eat! At first I had plenty but around 2 months old I was told by my pediatrician to take Feenugreek to help. If you take three capsules 3-4 times a day it works very well. So if your up to trying something new than I suggest that. Good luck!

I will pray for more milk. I know how much you want to provide for them and I agree with you.

Oh gosh. A breast milk mega journey! You are doing so well and what you have done already is so amazing for Bobby and Maya. You should be so proud of yourself.

Have you tried fenugreek? Or is that in the tea? It worked a bit for me I think but it made me smell funny! I muddled on with everything in the end, breastfeeding, expressed milk in a bottle, formula. Any means necessary basically. You'll get there and find a balance that works for your family.

So sorry to hear about your upsetting experiences of the last post. It is terrifying to see babies change colour like that. Just terrifying. Hugs. xo

Breastfeeding anxiety-finally a topic I know.
Hang in there.
It'll get better, and please, don't forget that, while breast is always best, but when our breasts won't do what we need, there's an alternative.
