NICU Day 10

Double digits. Bobby and Maya are 10 days old. They are growing like weeds and are doing great. Nothing really new to report from last night. Every day is just a new blessing.

Tonight, Maya not only went to the breast, she took it! She latched and suckled like a champ. The nurse was blown away. She leaned over my shoulder and said, "Wow! Look at her suck!" We only held her that way for about 15 minutes because she got wiggly and was messing with her lines, so I took her to my chest to finish her feeding and relax. She dozed and held my finger. So sweet... Peter held Bobby and after we put Maya away, I spent some time with them until my breasts began soaking my sweater, signaling pump time.

It was a long day. We took my dad to the NICU this morning, then dropped him off and went to a Christening (just lovely!) and then back to the hospital. Home now and having some dinner before bed. We are both wiped out.

At some time, I will check and respond to email. Just cant right now. It's all I can do to post entries and read blogs as I pump (like now). Once I'm caught up (almost!) I will get back into my email for more than just the daily NICU notices. I promise!

Go Maya, go! Take care of yourself - your schedule sounds exhausting, and you're going to need to be well rested when these babies come home with you someday soon

Sounds like a perfect day. Just loving the fact that Bobby & Maya are doing so well. It's you day in the sun and you have waited a long time for this. I will continue to keep them in my prayers. Eat, grow, and take them home!

so very glad things are going well! I am happy to hear you are healing and that you are getting more comfortable, but man, I bet you are exhausted! I hope you are taking some time to take care of yourself, and that may include napping when you can-- sleep is a beautiful thing.

I am so happy that Bobby and Maya are doing so well, it feels SO GOOD everytime I read that you are holding them, feeding them, having them hold your fingers. (teary with joy).

so, good for you and for all of you and so very happy,

with love,
Kate

Hi Honey!

I have been following along and praying like crazy for Bobby & Maya (and their tired but overjoyed parents).

I still am in amazement at how big they were at birth, given where you were in the pregnancy. WOW - that was some good baking of those babies, Mama ;o)

It's so wonderful to hear about the little positive milestones both of the babies are making each day.

I have loved reading your accounts of breast feeding both of them for the first time. What an amazing experience.
