8 Weeks Birthday (NICU Day 56)

Today, our sweet Maya and precious Bobby are 8 weeks old. As hard as it is for me to see our chunky monkey (as I like to call her) on the ventilator, I did take photos today. I didnt want to miss such an important age milestone. I also wanted to share the bad with the good. Otherwise, this space wouldnt be balanced or true. Thank you for encouraging us to take pictures, even though this week has been so tough.

Today was a good day. Bobby started taking his bottles again. Moving back to Maya helped, I think. Maya is now up to full feeds and her IV has been reduced to a heplock. She gets her first dose of steroids at midnight and they will reattempt the extubation tomorrow at 10am. She will get two more injections tomorrow at noon and midnight. We are truly hopeful that they will keep her trachea open and she will back to her old self this weekend.

This week has been rough. We appreciate all of your prayers and support. While I havent been able to respond to all the emails and comments, please know that we read them all and know your prayers contribute to the good health of our babies.

In other news, my breast milk production is better than it was before the decrease! The herbs and (nasty) tea are making a huge difference, as are the many pumping sessions. Finally, they have more than 24 hours of milk on hand at the hospital! YAY!!!

Keeping mighty healing thoughts for brave Maya. What an ordeal, what a nightmare. I hate this for all of you. I hope Friday is a day of health and strength and that Maya is back on her way to coming home with her obviously devoted brother.
